Tilly is my most sensitive child.
She frightens easily,
takes offense readily...
PANICS regularly.
We decided to prepare her for her
First Holy Communion
this year anyway.
She Wanted to receive Jesus
she just worries...
Well, today, May 1, 2009
at the 7:15 am Mass,
with NO fanfare or fancy dress...
SHE DID IT!!!
I am so absolutely proud of her.
It was hard
(maybe not as hard as the First Confession)
but, she went through with it.
I cried.
She is so sweet,
and now she has a better idea
of how Sweet Our Lord is too.
She plans to wear the fancy dress to Mass
on Sunday...our parish has a nice event
crowning the Blessed Mother
with all of the First Communicants in attendance.
We will have a party for her Sunday afternoon.
WHEW!!!
First Communions make me cry too.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to all.

ReplyDeleteCongrats! That is exciting. I still remember my first Communion.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and God bless you all!
ReplyDeleteI love what you've written here and honor who you daughter is. What a good mama you are.
ReplyDeleteGod bless her!
Is she perchance your third? My 3rd feels things deeply, my 3rd sibling did too...both September births too, if that means anything...
AS Lutherans we treat First Communion a bit different than you do but it was always a wonderful Sunday for me as Pastor. Glad it had meaning for your daughter.

ReplyDeleteElizabeth...my darling little 5 yr old dd is just the same! I wonder sometimes how she will be preparing for her sacraments. I believe her love of Jesus will override any fears! We also plan to attend a regular Sunday Mass instead of the fanfare and attention that she would absolutely balk at!
ReplyDeleteI wish your daughter many blessings!!
Congrats to Tilly, as an adult convert, I know how wonderful that First Communion is!
ReplyDeletehi Elizabeth!
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by my blog. I've been so quiet lately... not having anything to post except [or 'accept' LOL - i'm seeing if you're paying attention here to my blog post] for all this stupid Notre Dame stuff.
I'm assuming "FR." was spewing off his LETTER to the students to his secretary or somethin'... resonance and residence sound alike and obviously proofreading, as morals, are not his strong-point.
okay- i'm off to confession now! LOL
Hello again, I thought I'd lost you! My link to you seemd to break and I thought you'd stopped, but found you through 'followers'!
ReplyDeleteGlad you and your family are well. congratualtions to Tilly.
I dont know if you know this, but when ever you attend a first holy communion or confirmation you get a plenary indulgence under the normal conditions which is confession within the week, and an our father and 3 hail marys and glory be for the intentions of the holy father
ReplyDeleteShe is so beautiful. I know how hard it can be for some kids to do some of the simplest things. My twins are afraid of a baptismal drowning even though they swim like fish! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first visit to your blog. Your family is lovely!
ReplyDeleteI stopped on this older post because my second daughter was very nervous about First Holy Communion, too. Well, other things as well. And she's the sensitive one, too. And easily offended (we call her MissKaboom!) While she did wear the dress, she received Jesus for the first time at a daily Mass on a Tuesday evening, where attendance was low. It was perfect for her!
This was nearly 6 years ago. She's not so timid and shy anymore! She is now on stage, performing in various musicals and plays (currently she is the Mad Hatter and is very animated and not at all nervous! She's doing a great job!) It's great seeing her bloom like this.
Isn't it so lovely to have priests who are so willing to work with our kids?
Lovely blog.
God bless you!
